Interview - THE RETALIATION PROCESS
Martín: Hi there! First of all introduce you and your band THE RETALIATION PROCESS to our readers.
Andre: Hi, and thank you once for the opportunity to introduce TRP to the Spanish Metal fans. I'm Andre, the drummer of TRP. We come from Hamburg, the best city in Germany ;) and we want to blow your minds with our new album called “Downfall”. Give our music a chance and I can promise you that you are rewarded with an honest, powerful and emotional dose of modern metal!
M: Tell us about the birth of your debut album “Downfall” and its details.
A: The creation of the album has taken a long time since we have been thrown back by a few line-up changes. That was a really frustrating time and we were even about to just throw everything out on. But then we have found Christoph, who is the perfect singer for us, so that we were able to complete the album with renewed vigor at last. Therefore, we are now looking forward for getting “Downfall” finally under the metal hungry people.
M: How were the recording sessions of the album? Are you satisfied with the results?
A: Clearly, there is always room for improvement by hindsight. This is probably an occupational disease among musicians. However, you can improve only by one's own claim in itself. Overall, however, we are more than satisfied with the outcome, especially as our producer Eike Freese has delivered a fantastic job. He has helped us tremendously during the recording sessions, and always brought out the best of us.
M: Your sound is as powerful as varied. How do you describe your own music?
A: I think our sound is honest, powerful and equipped with a precise sense of melody. We all have our musical roots, which we do not want to deny. So you can find elements of death and trash metal in our songs as well as rock and hardcore elements. We try to connect these different Styles into a modern mix with a separate note and we place great emphasis on melody and groove.
M: What themes inspire you to create a new song?
A: We usually start with the instrumental part of a song. From a variety of riffs we tinker the overall structure together. However Jury, Micha and Sasha write their songs often completely at home on the computer. This makes it easier to work enormously. Our lyrics often deal with personal experiences, but also political world events are reflected in them.
M: Image is very important in our days; tell us about the artwork and the logo of the band.
A: Frankly, we have been cared little about building a certain image. Artwork and logo should fit mainly for the music and we all have to fell well with the optic. I know that sounds not very original, but that’s the way the artwork came about.
M: What can we expect about THE RETALIATION PROCESS´ live on stage?
A: You can you be sure that we always do our best to give an energetic show. If you visit one of our concerts, you get a decent charge sweaty metal with the extra portion of power. Promise!
M: How do you see Modern Metal scene in Europe today?
A: Hard to say because I don’t really have an overview of the trends and bands of all European countries. Still, Sweden, Norway and Finland are quite far forward, as far as metal. In Germany there are still the usual suspects such as Caliban and Heaven Shall Burn.
M: Your Top Five albums?
A: Oh man, this is difficult to answer because there are simply too many brilliant albums in the metal world. With no guarantee of completeness, I would mention spontaneously:
Fear Factory – Demanufacture
Samael ¬– Passage
At the Gates – Slaughter of the Soul
Dissection – Storm of the Lights Bane
Machine Head – Through the Ashes of Empires
As I said, I could continue this list endlessly.
M: Thank you very much for your time. Here you have space to write what you want as farewell.
A: Thank you for the interview and a big salute to all Spanish Metal Heads! If you want a good amount of metal with groove, melody and big balls, then check out "Downfall" and visit us on www.myspace.com/theretaliationprocess. We appreciate any feedback!
