Interview - EMERGENCY GATE
Martín: Hi there! Your new album is out now, tell us about the birth of “The Nemesis Construct” and its details.
Vlad: Hi, well... The Nemesis construct was recorded & mixed by Mario Lochert and Jan Vacik @ Dreamscape studios in munich. The same place we did Rewake. The album was released 30th April.
M: New year, new album and a new label. How do you feel to be in the roster of Twilight Zone Records?
V: We are very happy to be part of the Twilight family. After the Chaos-Over-Europe tour on which we supported Kreator, Caliban and Eluveitie we got a lot of offers from different labels, considering a label change. Twilight just made the best offer and on the other hand, the people at twilight just speak our language, ride the same wave so we just talked to our old label.
M: How were the recording sessions of the album? What are the differences with “Rewake”?
V: Writing “The nemesis construct” was a bit different from “Rewake”. The most work on writing “Rewake” was on my feather, but on “The Nemesis Contruct” it was Udo and Matthias, who brought the ideas for most of the songs, some were more or less done, some were in the construction phase. Everybody in the band brought in ideas and inspiration. Daniel locked himself for many days so he could work on all the keys and synthies, checking them back with us, it was an exhausting process, but as you can hear, a very productive one. The new album is not as personal as “Rewake”, but has a lot of our own blood in it. We did a lot together, wrote songs just to later throw them away and make complete new ones out of them.
M: Is “The Nemesis Construct” a conceptual record? Tell us about the connexion with the Nemesis myth.
V: It was really Daniel, who came with the idea. The name came to him because he wanted to bring our feeling as a band to the title of our CD. So “Construct” was the first thing which came to his mind. Construct: we have been made as one, constructed… through our hard work and our passion for music itself. The next thing which came to him was “Nemesis”, the Greek goddess of revenge. You realize everyday that we all have this special need for revenge in us… Some can suppress it and some can not. So “The nemesis construct” is a fusion of this ancient idea of a goddess and our everyday experience of the world around us. And when you listen to the CD and read the lyrics you will notice that the title fits perfectly.
M: The cover artwork is awesome, who is the man behind this painting?
V: Our cover artwork was done by Raf W., who did graphical stuff for Killswitch Engage, Metallica and other interesting names. Mario met him somehow and just asked him if he would be interested in doing something for us. His answer came immediately: Sure!
M: Last year you toured with the legendary KREATOR, how was the experience? Are you planning a big tour for this year?
V: To be on tour with legends like Kreator is something special. We have learned a lot about the hard tour-life, not as many people imagine, always sleeping long and having one party after the another. We worked really hard to meet the fans expectations, but mostly to meet our own! The tour was great, many thanks to Kreator, we would always go on tour with again. In fact, we even became friends off-tour! This year so far we've played a lot of clubs and will play a lot of festivals, but planning for a big tour.... let me just say one thing: there is something going on, but I can't however tell you anything at this moment, but be assured, we'll let you know as soon as there are some facts
M: “Point Zero” is the title of one of the new songs, and you choose it to shot the new video of the band. What about the shocking images of this one?
V: Point zero is the best song for saying “this far and not further!” But the human psyche and imagination let's us go a bit further, show what could happen if... But there is also a different message in this: don't let yourself fall completely; there will always be friends willing to catch you.
M: Do you think Metal is in good shape in our days? What is your opinion as a musician and as a fan?
I think “Metal” as such doesn't exist anymore. There are just too many good bands with good “metalish-styles” out there, and I would be the last one trying to put them in one drawer. I think it is good that especially in THIS musical genre you can see progress. If something is standing still, it will obviously die, and we won't let that happen to metal, not as band and not as fans.
M: Can you list five of your favourite records which have been published recently?
V: Since I have a very broad spectrum, don't be shocked:
Porcupine Tree – The Incident
Killswitch Engage – Killswitch Engage
HURT – Goodbye to the Machine
Immortal – All Shall Fall
Dornenreich – In Luft geritzt
M: Thank you very much for your time. Here you have space to write what you want as farewell.
V: Thx for the interview and I hope to see you somewhere at the show and surely afterwards at the bar :)
